Gavin Bartlett
Q1 It is well known that one of the key contributors to the historic issues with Lake Hayes water quality has been from upstream land development. What is your position on intensification in the Lake Hayes catchment area?
I am not supportive of intensification of housing in the Lake Hayes catchment area, due to the sensitivity of the area and the potential downstream effects.
Q2a Do you consider the current Coronet Village Fast-Track application that includes 780 residences positive or negative?
In terms of the potential environmental effects on the immediate surrounds and downstream to Lake Hayes and beyond, inclusion of the proposed 780 residences is a negative in my opinion.
Q2b Why do you say that?
Both for the potential effects on the Lake Hayes catchment, and the ability of council to provide the required infrastructure to and from the boundary of the site.
Q3 What infrastructure would you like to see in place to address our traffic and sewerage issues in Queenstown? Please provide specific examples.
Connection of the proposed development to existing council Three Water services would be very challenging. In terms of the area surrounding the proposed development, it has been encouraging to see ORC commence the Malaghans Rd bus route to connect Arrowtown and Queenstown, and this area is now well served by the new Wharehuanui cycle trail. Affecting this area further afield, over this term in Council I have been supporting the provision of a new bridge over the Shotover River at Arthur's Point. This requires input and funding from NZTA, and at present their priorities have been directed elsewhere, but I intend to keep pushing on this whenever the opportunity arises.
